Double Fresh International Market opened on Brownsville Rd. during the height of the pandemic. The owner used to own and operate Everest Foods in a plaza not far from this location, near Duffy’s Beer and Much More, but that space was quite small and the new location allows for a much bigger store, complete with groceries, clothes, household items, and prepared foods.
I love this grocery store! The selection of fresh produce is unbeatable. They have many Latin ingredients that are not always easy to find in your standard Pittsburgh supermarket, like yuca and ñame. They also have exotic items such as passionfruit, fresh turmeric, bitter melon, yard long beans, and much more. There are always hot chilis, fresh or dried. You can also get common produce like carrots, spinach, bananas and the like, and everything is very fresh.
Double Fresh has a dried food section that has a very large assortment of daal and other beans. I am excited to try the different varieties as we usually only eat standard green or red lentils. There is also a large selection of spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, coriander, and much more.
We’ve purchased samosas from the freezer section that come with an excellent cilantro and mint chutney. They also stock all matter of standard darry products like milk, butter, eggs, and yogurt, and offer Nepali products such as ghee and Paneer cheese.
We have not tried the prepared food yet, but I hope to do so soon. With so many of our neighbors being from the Nepali/Bhutanese community we have grown really fond of the food, so I really look forward to trying Double Fresh’s food.
Double Fresh International Market is a great place to get good high quality produce and other goods in the south hills. It is convenient to many neighborhoods such as Baldwin, Whitehall, South Park, and Bethel Park. Stop by to pick up some really fresh food!
