Weekly Nursery Update – June 18

This week brings not much news, and the weekend brings some welcome escape from our day to day life.

On the nursery front, we ordered some grow lights that we’ll have available though the website probably in late July.  I’ll have photos and details about them at that time.  We’re also working to acquire another couple of products to get us started.  All of the details will be updated on this website.  We’re looking forward to being able to provide for some of your gardening needs.

On the garden front, not too much has been happening.  The lettuce hasn’t bolted yet, but furry friends, both domestic and wild might be enjoying it more than the humans.  The cilantro did bolt already.  Peppers and tomatoes are growing, but probably still a couple weeks away from maturity.

Last weekend I participated in a volunteer flower planting through the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.  It was a nice and mild day to plant a flower garden at Mt. Lebanon and Castle Shannon Boulevards right by the park and ride lot.  There were many volunteers so we got the garden planted really quick.  We got done so fast I stopped at M. Cibrone & Sons Bakery on the way home and got some of their pizza and a few deserts.  They are a great bakery, and I think the highest compliment I can pay them is that my kids eat the pizza including the crust!  The bread, deserts, sauces, and everything else they sell is wonderful, so if you’re in the South Hills, check them out.

We have another couple of projects that we’re working on, but I can’t discuss them just yet.  I will let you know in the weeks to come.  One involves this website, and the other involves me being a guest somewhere else.  Details to be revealed as soon as these projects are ready.

This Saturday we were supposed to leave for Ireland. Pre-pandemic we had bought tickets.  It was going to be Celia, the kids, my parents, and me.  We were all so excited.  The trip was cancelled a few months ago for obvious reasons.  While we’re not going to Ireland, we do have a trip planned for this weekend.  We’re going to a cabin in Northwestern Pennsylvania.  We’re staying near Edinboro PA, but will do day trips to Presque Isle State Park and Erie Bluffs State Park.  Both of these State Parks offer fantastic nature and shoreline on Lake Erie.  We are excited about getting the kids away from their screens and into nature.  I’m ready to celebrate Celia’s birthday with some of our Strawberry-Rhubarb Mead that at this point has aged for over a year.  I’m very excited and I think everyone in the family needs a getaway.  The kids have had so much screen time due to completing the school year at home.  It will be very good for them to get away from that for a few days.

I’m hoping all of you can get away, or at least outdoors this weekend.  Cheers to you and I hope you enjoy your weekend!  Thank you for reading!
